The photographer Manuel Bauer, born in Zurich in 1996, is known for his work about India, Tibet and the people in Tibetan exile. The Dalai Lama personally opened his photo exhibition "Tibetan Culture on Foreign Earth" in 1990. In 1995, Bauer managed, risking his life, to accompany a six-year-old girl who, holding her father's hand, fled from Lhasa across the ice-covered mountains of the Himalayas to India. Bauer's work is published in magazines worldwide and can be seen regularly in international exhibitions. He has received numerous prizes and awards for his photographic work, including the "World Press Photo Award" and the "Picture of the Year Award"
