Even as a child, Harald Hentzschel roamed his home island of Sylt with a simple Bilora Bella 66 roll film camera. Since then, photography hasn't let go of him: Since 1998 he has been publishing the calendar series “SYLT LICHTBILDER” every year and then discovered analogue black and white photography. The result are masterful portraits of Sylt's diverse natural and unadulterated dune and sea landscape. The photos show structures on the island that have grown over centuries in a strict, purist design language that deviates from the usual photographic clichés. By focusing on the essential elements and by playing virtuoso with hard contrasts on the one hand and soft transitions and blurs on the other, he creates atmospheric shots full of longing and poetry.
