Elliott Erwitt (*1928) shaped the medium of photography with his own personal style. He became known primarily for his timelessly humorous dog photos and portraits. In 1953, Erwitt became a member of the Magnum photo agency and worked as a freelancer, including for LIFE magazine. In 1960 he became president of Magnum for three years. From the 70s and 80s he produced both documentaries and comedies for HBO.
