Description of Marc Riboud - Dalmatien, Dubrovnik, 1953

Marc Riboud (1923-2016) was born in Lyon, France. Riboud initially studied engineering, but gave up his studies for his passion for photography. In 1953, Riboud created an icon of photography with the photo of the “Peintre de Tour Eiffel”, which was published in Life Magazine and established his legendary reputation. He joined the Magnum agency and in the following years created impressive photographs of the Middle East, Afghanistan, India and China. He was also one of the few photographers who were allowed to take photos in North and South Vietnam between 1968 and 1969. Riboud published many books and had major exhibitions in museums. He won many awards including the Lucie Award and the ICP Infinity Award.
