In Woodlands, Mat Hennek shows unique portraits of trees. His photographs are the result of numerous hikes in the forests of Europe and the USA. Hennek sets out to discover extraordinary tree landscapes, and he often finds them in remote and sometimes difficult to reach areas. He often spends days away from human civilization.

In his pictures, Hennek hides all spatial clues, sometimes the ground, sometimes the horizon in the sky, in order to confuse any orientation. Light and shadow, pattern and structure combine to form an impressionistic hymn - without any middle, without beginning or end.

Hennek captures the soul of the forest by transforming it into pure abstraction, a sublime and mysterious architecture, shaped by the seasons and the sun's rays.
