Description of René Burri. Blackout New York
The lights go out in New York on November 9, 1965. A power outage hits the city of millions and with it large parts of Canada as well as the federal states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Jersey and the state of New York at around 5:30 p.m. At this point, MAGNUM photographer René BURRI is in the studio of his friend New York photographer Elliott ERWITT. Equipped with his Leica and eight rolls of film, he plunges into a nocturnal chaos that is at best only partially illuminated and takes photographs until well after midnight.
